Is 5.8 supposed to be fast lol? That’ll be like even with my Z3 Coupe which I feel is kinda slow nowadays at stoplights haha

Under hard acceleration yes. That number is combined power. But since gas engines and electric motors make peak torque differently and at separate RPMs it’s a little tricky to calculate combined torque so manufacturers don’t usually release it. It will be hilariously-quick off the line though.

Compared to the competition be it mainstream or luxury where it ranges from 6-8secs, it’s very fast. Plus 0-60 is just a single dimensional view. The torque is what will make it quick- for passing and off the line.

I don’t miss the RAV4 V6. But I do find this new hybrid RAV4 interesting.
Now what Toyota needs to do is have a variant of this powertrain added to the Sienna, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra
and Sequoia.

I would say it’s fast. Faster than many other cars people have praised for their performance.

Interesting - the old v6 was kind of overpowered for the brake and suspension set up. W onder if Toyota is going to add an up spec brake and suspension package to that “Prime” model in addition to the styling touches.

This ticks so many boxes for me. The only thing I want to know is the relative upgrades to the motors. Sure, they are saying 83 hp total system hp upgrades, but is that in the MG2, thee MGR or both. The one thing it needed was more power to the MGR (rear eAWD motor) as the current Rav4 hybrid can only apply less than 25% of total system power to the rear axle. Now if it was ALL in the MGR. yes please, then it would at least hav almost 50% of total system power.

I recall reading a Motor Trend/Car & Driver (one of those magazines) review on the V6 Rav4 thinking that was a typo. 6.1sec 0-60?!

It’s only a matter of time until someone buys one, modifies it, and it ends up on Smoking Tire’s “ One Take”

I don’t miss the old sleeper V6 Rav4 because there’s one in my garage (Mrs. RPM has had it since new and might never get rid of it), but my mom may be in the market for a new one soon , hmm.....

I think you answered your own question by favorably comparing a two-ton Toyota crossover built for the school run to a sporty 2-seater BMW. I would really enjoy beating a fart can equipped BRZ off the line in my mom’s crossover.

For a compact non-premium crossover? Yes. A BMW X1 takes 6.3.

I don't miss the old Rav4 v6 because it's in my garage. But this looks to be the apparent heir to the crown, so I'll be getting on the list for one.

So the 2.5 liter systems that have any specs out so far:
Camry: 208 system hp, 118 MG2 hp, battery options are 259 V 4 Ah (Li-ion) or 244.8 V 6.5 Ah (NiMH)
Avalon/ES: 215 system hp, 118 MG2 hp, battery is 244.8 V 6.5 Ah (NiMH)
RAV4: 219 system hp, 118 MG2 hp, 54 MGR hp, battery is 244.8 V 6.5 Ah (NiMH)
Highlander: 240 system hp (in FWD and AWD configurations), battery is larger than the RAV4 and is NiMH
The fact that the Highlander can get 240 hp through the front wheels only, and then there’s another 54 hp going to the back wheels using the same MGR as the RAV4, you’re awfully close to 302 hp if you can just get a bit more power through the fronts.
Toyota’s also going on about a new boost converter, which makes me wonder if they’re going for higher voltage to get more power out of the motors? (They were already boosting the pack up to 650 V before...)
